Beira Lake

Beira Lake is a lake in the center of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Many large businesses in the city surround the lake. It once occupied approximately 1.65 km2 (0.64 sq mi) of land, but this has since been reduced to 0.65 km2 (0.25 sq mi) due to a variety of factors. The lake was used for a variety of purposes during the Portuguese, Dutch, and English colonial eras. Its Portuguese name is still in use. It is linked to numerous intricate canals, which provided an easy way to transport goods within the city and suburbs.
